BlogsWhat does "jurying" mean?Submitted by Mary Smith on Mon, 10/10/2011 - 09:08I get asked this often and thought I should explain. Because we want to maintain the quality of art that is exhibited and sold at the Winnsboro Fine Art Market, we want to restrict participation to artists who produce good quality fine art. In order to do that we ask that each artist submit photos of his work along with his application. Those photos are reviewed by a small Jurying Committee to insure that the artist’s work is suitable for the Art Market. This eliminates work that is poor quality or that, even though it might be good, can’t be categorized as “fine art”.
I hope this makes the jurying process a little easier to understand. Because of it, you can be assured that the art you’ll see at the November Art Market will be something you’ll want to take home. "Wingbeats"Submitted by Mary Smith on Thu, 08/18/2011 - 13:27Exhibiting artists at the 2011 Art Market include local sculptor, Al Moore. Al has received numerous awards for his work in stone. His most recent accolade is the acceptance of his work, “Wingbeats”, into the Rockport Center for the Arts’ newest exhibition: SHORELINES Biennial 2011-National Juried Exhibition for Excellence in Coastal Art. This exhibition will run from October 19 through November 19, 2011. You can see “Wingbeats” and other works by Al at his website: www.bentpinestudios.com
Support of BusinessSubmitted by Mary Smith on Sun, 07/31/2011 - 14:06The nice thing about a small town is the sense of community that surrounds everything that happens here. City National Bank is one of our sponsors this year. They’ve been involved in the community for many years—not just a bank doing business here, but a bank that’s involved in the welfare of the community.
The Art Market is many things to the community: an outlet for local artists, a chance for residents to experience fine art, a reason for tourists to visit and shop here, and an introduction for anyone looking for a great place to live. When businesses like City National Bank support our event they support the community. Please show them that you appreciate that support.
